Alan Louis Crawford

Alan Louis Crawford, 88, of Indianapolis, died February 23, 2011. Mr. Crawford was born April 4, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to Leon and Ruth Cooper Crawford. He was a graduate of Southeastern High School in Detroit and attended the University of Kentucky. Mr. Crawford was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Bulldog Electric which later became ITE where he was a District Manager for 40 years. After his many years at ITE, Mr. Crawford retired from Siemens. He was the former President of the Electric League, a member of Millersville Masonic Lodge No. 126, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis 32nd Degree Mason, Murat Shrine, a member of Hillcrest Country Club where he enjoyed his passion for golf, and he was a member of the Indianapolis Racquet Club. Additionally, Mr. Crawford enjoyed playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles, and he volunteered delivering Meals-on-Wheels for Riverview Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillian G. Crawford; his children, Gail Gisler (John), Susan Jones (Tom-deceased), and Geoffrey Crawford (Betty); his sister, Sharon Thayer; his grandchildren, Christopher Gisler (Annick), Wendy Teinowitz (Harry), Robert P. Whitacre (Elizabeth Jayne), James A. Whitacre, and Elizabeth L. Feldmann (Derrick); and his 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ruth Crawford, and his sister, Patricia. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 pm, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd W. Drive, Indianapolis. Private entombment will be at Washington Park North Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
