Mrs. Affie Schild passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. She was born May 12, 1930, in Russell County, Kentucky to Ben and Angie Bernard. Her immediate family included brothers Jack, Benjamin, and JC, and sisters Doretta, Betty, and Alberta. Affie grew up in Russell Springs and moved to Indianapolis when she was in her early twenties. Before going to work for Western Electric in 1955, she worked briefly at a dry cleaners and then at a folding door manufacturer. Retiring from Western Electric in 1982, she enjoyed traveling around the United States. An avid gardener, she had a veritable ‘green thumb and successfully grew all types of flowers and vegetables. She was an accomplished seamstress and for many years made her own clothing. At one point she had over 70 dresses in her closet, most of which she had made herself.

For many years Affie attended Foursquare Gospel Church in Indianapolis. She had a strong faith and had read the Bible cover to cover multiple times. She also attended Bethel Family Worship Center and could often be found working in the food pantry. She loved children and was a long-time supporter of St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, as well as many other charities.

Affie was briefly married to Jerry Greene in 1954 and married Edwin (Pete) Schild in October 1976. They were married until Pete’s death on 12/24/2008. They enjoyed traveling, attending church services, and visiting family and friends.

Affie is survived by nieces and nephews Jimmy Beasley, Chris Walker, Kenny Harding, Wendy Blair, Kim Wyatt, Tim Bernard, Crystal Chaney, and Cindy Crew, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by four stepdaughters, Roxanne Burnell, Becky VanHorn, Linda Charles, and Beverly Burch, as well as 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by stepdaughter Diana Beck.
