Sylvia Lee Champion

Sylvia Lee Champion was born April 1, 1935, in Ralls, Texas during the worst sandstorm in Texas history to Jim and Georgia Lee Bennett. A 50-year resident of Carmel, she was 86 when she passed.

She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1953 and attended Abilene Christian College. During the years before marriage, she studied art and music with renowned artist Connie Martin and Georgia O’Keeffe. After her marriage to Doyle Champion on March 24, 1956 she devoted herself to being a wife, mother, homemaker, and grandmother.

A friend to all who she met. She was always coordinated in dress and decorations. Throughout her life, she was active in Girl Scouts of America, Carmel Marching Band Boosters, Visiting Nurse Association, the Indianapolis Symphony, and many other civic organizations. A dedicated Christian, she studied the Bible daily and was known to preach when the occasion called for it.

Sylvia enjoyed traveling with her husband. They have visited all 50 states and some 20 foreign countries.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years and by daughters, Leesa Max Champion and Rossi Ann Champion. Daughter Freddi Jane Imel passed away six years ago. She is survived by husband Dennis. Also surviving are her two grandchildren, Scott Champion Imel and Allie Mae Weimer, husband Jacob Weimer, and great-great-grandchildren Georgia Lee and Bennett Ray Weimer.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 10, from 3:30 pm to 4 pm, followed by a memorial service at 4 pm, all at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Dr, Carmel, Indiana 46032.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions out to Wheeler Mission Indianapolis.
