Mary Adaline Adams

Mary Adaline (Winslow) Adams, 93, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022. She was born on November 12, 1928 in Knightstown, IN to the late Charles Donald and Dorothea (Holloway) Winslow. She was the second of four children, Alice Jeanette, Frances Howe and Charles Holloway Winslow.

Mary’s formative years were spent in Irvington and Warren Township neighborhoods, both on the east side of Indianapolis. She attended Warren High School and graduated third in her class (1946). Mary’s freshman year of college was college at Lyons Township Junior College in LaGrange, IL. Further education was completed at Earlham College and Indiana University Extension.

Mary married George Nelson Adams on June 26, 1952 at Irvington Presbyterian Church.  Together they had three children, David Bruce (1953), Amy Howe (1956) and Carole Jane (1964). She spent 22 years doing clerical work for Indianapolis Public School System, working at Shortridge and Broad Ripple High Schools, retiring in 1991. Mary loved Northwood Christian Church, Downey Christian Church, classical music, good books, camping and playing bridge.

She is survived by her daughters along with her grandchildren: Lauren Elizabeth (Ben) Failinger, Amelia Mary Anita Ryll and Albrecht Tristan Howe Ryll. Mary is also survived by her siblings, Frances and Charles; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mary was very proud of all her family members and leaves a legacy of love.

Mary is proceeded in death by her parents; her sister, Alice; her beloved husband, George; and her son, David. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 13, 2022 at 11 AM at Downey Avenue Christian Church (111 S Downey Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46219) with visitation one hour prior to the service. Mary will be laid to rest, next to her husband, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery (9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, In 46250).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to Downey Avenue Christian Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Flanner Buchanan-Broad Ripple.
